TEAM MUFASA: Alpe DuZes, the big day!

Yes we did it!

Alpe d'HuZes was a great success for Team Mufasa. The four of us cycled up the mountain a total of 26 times. Each at his own pace six times. Eelco did it no less than eight times!

In doing so, we achieved more than 25,000 euros raised for the fight against cancer. Above all, we were very impressed with everything. It is wonderful to see how participants, mindful of the motto "never give up" to unprecedented sporting heights. Tough were the stories along the way of loved ones who died of cancer. We started Alpe d'HuZes as a sporting achievement. But in the end, above all, we will not forget the love and suffering shared.
Alpe DuZes AthleteSportsWorldThe morning of Alpe d'HuZes began early. At 4:00 a.m. we were at the start line. And only around 5.15 could we drive off. That meant going up in the dark. We were lucky to be able to use a tent belonging to friends close to the finish. Here we could fill our water bottles with sports drinks and stock up on energy bars. The climb took me around 1 hour and 20 minutes each time. In that time, I drank two half-liter water bottles of AthleteSportsWorld with sports drink empty and I ate one candy bar. Since I noticed during training that sugars alone don't do my stomach any good, I had a savory baguette for lunch. Although the day was all about climbing, the descent was especially grueling. Since my neck hernia, my right shoulder and neck quickly become stiff from exertion. This meant suffering up and down.
In the end I cycled 174 kilometers in 11 hours, climbed 6,600 altimeters and bandaged 6,900 kcal. It was well worth all the training the past few months. In the evening, over a beer, we already made new plans for the next athletic challenge. Once an athlete, always an athlete!
