Especially for the marathon and the half marathon runners, Maurten has created 2 special sports nutrition kits.
To create a product that allows the body to take in so many carbohydrates per hour takes some science. Maurten has very cleverly developed this using a special "hydrogel technology. As far as the Drink mix Maurten320 is huge it provides 80g of carbohydrate per 500 ml. Around double what the majority of other sports drinks provide.
As Maurten explains on his website:
"When you mix it with water, you have a liquid carbohydrate sports drink with a high concentration of maltodextrin and fructose. The sports drink immediately turns into hydrogel in the acidity of the stomach. The hydrogel ensures smooth transport of the drink through the stomach to the intestine, where the water, salt and carbohydrates are absorbed. "
Maurten also produces a DrinkMix 160, that is, a half-strength variant that is still contains 40gr of carbohydrates.
In addition to Maurten's drink mixes, there is now an actual hydrogel. This is the Maurten Gel100 which contains 25 grams of carbohydrates. Research at Maurten has shown results that you can consume as much as 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour with this gel (4 per hour). However, in our experience, this does leave you with a full stomach, which is not always pleasant when running.
