Water has always played a central role in Pim van Diemen's athletic life. In his youth, he was an avid swimmer, and during his studies, he preferred a spot on the water rather than in it: he took up rowing enthusiastically.

After his studies, when Pim chose a professional career, a big gap threatened to appear. Rowing proved to be primarily a student sport and hard to maintain training-wise alongside a full-time job. This prompted him to seek other athletic challenges. Through purchasing a road bike, he eventually found his way to triathlon. Never one to shy away from a challenge, the entire triathlon became a bucket-list goal.

“Of course, I approached this gradually,” the Amsterdammer explains. “Through the eighth, quarter, and half triathlon distances, I prepared for what was supposed to be a one-time adventure. That one time, however, got seriously out of hand.” Thanks to a friend, Pim also joined club ASU’11, and team competitions made the triathlon experience even more diverse.

“Enjoyment is always my top priority. That is my main motivation. But as long as I keep improving, I am definitely curious about where my limits lie, though not at any cost,” Pim states realistically, indicating that a professional career is not an end goal.

The connection to AthleteSportsWorld via ASU’11 is of course quickly made: co-owner Peter van Dartel is also a member there, and the two have known each other for several years. “What I appreciate about ASW is that it’s not just about selling products. They are only satisfied when a customer leaves the store satisfied. The social aspect and enjoyment come first.” This aligns perfectly with Pim’s values.

Pim’s main goals for the 2023 season:

04-06 Dutch Middle Distance Championship Nieuwkoop

25-06 Challenge Roth

09-09 European Long Distance Championship Almere
