I am Koen Hijman, 25 years old and as of 2023, I have been active in triathlon for almost 10 years on both short and now also long distances. Challenged by my father 10 years ago to do a mini-triathlon because I was already doing swimming and running. After finishing, I didn't like it at all and planned never to do another triathlon. Only my interest grew, and I started training more focused and quickly picked up cycling well. After a few European cup races as a junior and U23/Elite athlete, I noticed that the short distance did not suit me as much and that I prefer the longer distances. Next season, the focus is mainly on getting stronger on the bike and gaining more experience in longer distances. Planned competitions include Kwart Triathlon Ter Aar, Dutch Half Championships in Nieuwkoop, IM 70.3 Westfriesland, and a few divisional races for Dolfijn Triathlon Amsterdam.
